Chicagoland must-see tree lighting events


There is something warm about a community coming together in the cold, hot chocolates in hand, sparkling holiday music, waiting for oohs and aahs as the town or village tree is lit.

This year it is even more special to participate in our favorite holiday traditions again. Kick off the holiday season with these exciting tree-light ceremonies in Chicago and the suburbs.

Have fun as a family with live music, performances and a special appearance by Dreezy Claus, the Black Santa of Chicago. Tree lighting begins at 6 p.m. After the lighting, guests will be treated to a fireworks show.

Christmas lights in Aurora

Enjoy a holiday parade inaugurating Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The official Aurora City Holiday Tree will be lit and then downtown will have a fireworks display. The glittering streets of downtown Aurora will also be filled with costumed characters, festive photo ops and more.

Illuminate Rosemont Park

Parkway Bank Park will turn on the lights of its trees and a spectacular show of over 80,000 lights. Enjoy ice skating, Christmas carols, festive characters, horse and carriage rides, and a visit with Santa Claus and Santa Claus.

Winterland Tree Lighting Ceremony at Gallagher Way

Have an evening of holiday cheer with special shows before and after the official tree lighting. After the ceremony, guests can skate on the ice with Clark the Cub, watch performances by Chicago’s ice skating groups, and enjoy festive food and shopping at Christkindlmarket Wrigleyville.

Watch Santa flip the switch for the annual tree lighting ceremony. Throughout downtown, costumed characters and singers spread holiday cheer, follow a colorful vintage car parade to Hickory Road, watch live ice carving demonstrations, take photos with the Santa, hot chocolate, bonfire and holiday music.

Santa Lucia and Santa arrive to help light up the lights in Geneva. Enjoy the singers, the lighting of the Big Tree, the roasted chestnuts and the late shopping.
